New skool Hip Hop

I thank bbm, haha, for without it i would not have heard or even found out about The Advocates, an up and coming hip hop group that brings new flavour to the music industry. i managed to get a few questions to them just to find out more about The Advocates. ENJOY!! *kisses*
Q: When did Adv begin, how did you come together as a group?
A: The Advocates were formed in 2006 consisting of just two members> it then grew to four men in 2007> there is no tale to tell about how the group was formed, it just took form randomly through each member’s passion to make their mark in the music industry.
Q: Where does the name Advocates come from?
A: The name, Advocates, was first thought of by the co founder of the Advocates Merc Benz who used to go by the a.k.a Verse. We were just chilled at my house and he came up with the name. If we had to give the definition of the name it would be that we are the law in hip hop. We do things according to our own rules and our first rule is that we have to stay atypical. Conforming is a sin and we aint a bunch of heathens.
Q: LOL! Well said_  so what would you say inspires/motivates you to write your lyrics?
A: It’s different for each member of the crew. I will say that one thing we do have in common when it comes to writing is that we are motivated by progression. We all just want to be better than our last verse and I think that gives us an extra edge if you try comparing us to other groups or up and coming artists. We always put our heart in every lyric. Music is a reflection of self and we epitomise that.
Q: Do you find yourselves different from up and coming rappers? If so how?
A: We have a long term vision and a good work ethic. What we see with some of our "peers" is that they hustle for the short term and are in it for the wrong reasons but I shall not go in to deep with that. We do it for the love first and foremost. We are looking to build an empire rather than just hustle for the 15minutes of fame. When we do get our 15minutes we plan to convert it into a lifetime rather than just taking it for granted. We live for hip-hop.

Q: Who is music targeted to?
A: The Thing with our crew is that we all have different tastes in music and we are all our own individual. You can hear it with all our songs. Although if I have to answer that I would say everyone. We are not trying to limit our reach. Music is all about invoking a certain feeling in people and if we are able to do so, we're happy. You can’t choose how a listener is going to relate to your music. But as long as they do we're happy
Q: What kind of message is ADV trying send through their music?
A: There is no direct message. You would have to look deeper into the camp to realise our true message. We just hope in the future we can motivate people to not be afraid to follow their dreams. Yes that’s cliché but it is cliché for a reason. Playing it safe isn't the only option to success. We are still young and have a lot to learn but one aspect of life we've mastered is to stay positive and never stop working hard to achieve our dreams. If that is something people can take from us than we're happy (laughs).

Q: What else do you do apart from being The Advocates? lol
A: We are all busy with our studies. Conception is trying to get his accounting degree and working hard in production with our new recent member to the camp DJ Bi4ocal. He is the man behind the  hits.  Him and Benny Bars, formerly known as Proph are busy with their law degree. Tommy flo is studying finance and Merc is studying sound engineering.
Q: What have you done to get yourselves known?
A: Radio interviews at planet radio and rhythm100. Only performances we have had were three years ago. The one that stands out was the one we did at the UP fashion show. We took a break to perfect our art better and now we are looking to perform everywhere so that more people get familiar with our music. We have had quite a few video cameos. The recent ones we’re on J Namic and Blayze single “we get it poppin” which will be out very soon. We were also on the new khuli Chana video “Jivas fabulous” and Dotcom's first single”Get Mine” as well.

Our video is done and should be out on TV pretty soon for our first single If They Didn't know "Bombaklut." You can check it on youtube http://bit.ly/u9VGk4
