POP SANITY: Zone Fam

Now you know how we love music and giving recognition to up and coming talent. This time we came across a group called Zone fam, they are rappers who are based in Lusaka, Zambia. Interested to find out more about these fellas, I asked them a few questions about how they came together and their love for music, this is what they said...

How did Zone Fam come together and where does the name come from?

We came together officially as a group about two years ago. The name is derived from “The Zone” studio where we all met as solo artists and eventually decided to put our talents together.

What is your music background?

We are all fundamentally embedded in the foundations of Hip Hop. Influenced by different artists from across the globe from our younger years and by the current wave our African Artists. Acts such as Jay-Z, B.I.G, Tupac, Zubz, Tumi, Proverb have all played a role in influencing our sound.
Individually we all seem to have picked up the Hip Hop bug around our high school years…drawn by the visuals of music videos and the euphoria of seeing artists being at home on a stage.

What inspires you to write your music?

Our mutual love for Hip Hop; the passion to do what we love and our strides to be the best.

Any familiar artists you have worked with? If not, who would you like to work with?

We worked with a lot of local Zambian acts on our debut album such as Slap Dee,Petersen and Macky.
One other artist of note we worked with is Zeus from Botswana on “Viva” – Who we have alot of respect for. We are hoping to work with many other artists from across the continent and beyond.

Last but not least, how do people get a hold of your music?

Our music is available on itunes for people in the diaspora that are able to access it. Search for “Zone Fam – The Business (Foreign Exchange)”. We are in talks to have our cd stocked in South Africa and other countries within the region.
